At Misty Willow, we believe in dignifying long-term care by recognizing and nurturing the passions of our residents. One such resident, whose love for gardening had remained unfulfilled due to past challenges, found renewed purpose — thanks to the thoughtful intervention of our Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA), Raquel. Recognizing the profound impact that gardening could have on the resident's well-being, Raquel embarked on a mission to make this dream a reality. With unwavering dedication, she became the resident's partner in tending to and enhancing our outdoor garden space. Despite her busy schedule, Raquel invested countless hours in mastering the art of gardening, ensuring that every plant received the care it deserved.
Raquel's efforts transcended the individual, transforming our garden into a vibrant hub of community engagement. Through her initiative, she coordinated weekends where volunteers eagerly joined in garden maintenance activities, further nurturing the sense of camaraderie within our facility. Her personal contributions, including donated items, played a pivotal role in expanding the scope and beauty of our garden.
Beyond serving as a sanctuary for our resident, the garden has evolved into a cherished centerpiece for Misty Willow. It has become a space where residents and their families gather to unwind, bond, and partake in the joys of nature. Moreover, the garden has become a platform for education and growth, with collaborative efforts between our Rehabilitation department and residents hosting informative garden groups on a weekly basis.
Raquel's initiative exemplifies the essence of person-centered care, where the needs and desires of our residents are at the forefront of our mission. Her commitment to enriching the lives of others, coupled with her tireless efforts in fostering a sense of belonging and purpose, epitomizes the spirit of Misty Willow.
