Flagstone North Pilots Abilities Care

By Sacchin Bhatia, Senior Therapy Resource, Flagstone North, California

We had six facilities successfully pilot the Abilities Care ACE program, which is our home-grown dementia care program that addresses cognitive challenges at every level of disability from mild deficits to late stages of dementia. Each of the six programs identified a champion, and then Julia Schmutz and Aimee Bhatia (Therapy Resources) led trainings for seven weeks to prepare and review the material for each week of the ACE program.

We had excellent IDT participation, good facility engagement, and an overall enthusiastic response from those who went through the program. It was amazing to watch the IDT fully understand the program, improve their understanding of remaining abilities at each stage of dementia, and facilitate improved understanding of the residents.

We are proud of these facilities for carving out the time needed to invest in our front-line staff. We know it takes planning, coordination, and dedication, and we thank you all for completing your first round of training. In the coming weeks, we look forward to hearing your success stories, helping you with challenges, and learning when your next cohort will start.
