At 102 years old, Johnie Morris was admitted to our facility following a fall and respiratory failure, requiring assistance with daily activities like hygiene, transfers, bed mobility, and walking short distances. Despite these challenges, Johnie showed remarkable determination throughout her four-week stay.
She actively participated in therapy sessions with our Occupational Therapy (OT), Speech Therapy (ST), and Physical Therapy (PT) teams, making significant strides in her recovery. Over time, she regained independence with bed mobility, allowing her to reposition herself comfortably in bed. She also regained the ability to ambulate short distances with minimal assistance and, though still requiring support with transfers and dressing, was able to perform these tasks with less help. Her respiratory function improved, enabling her to engage in therapy and daily activities with greater ease. By the time she was safely discharged, Johnie had returned to her prior level of functioning, now managing bed mobility independently and needing only occasional assistance with dressing and transfers. Johnie’s journey is a testament to her resilience and the power of skilled rehabilitation, and we are proud to have supported her in reaching this remarkable recovery.
Norman Porterfield, an 85-year-old male, was admitted to our facility after a hospitalization secondary to encephalopathy. This marked his second visit to our facility, and upon admission, he presented with significant weakness and decreased strength, was unable to walk, and required assistance with basic activities of daily living.
From the outset, Mr. Porterfield was an active participant in his therapy sessions. His willingness to engage, combined with his pleasant demeanor, made him a joy to work with. With his determination and the support of our skilled therapy team, he made remarkable progress. In less than three weeks of therapy, Mr. Porterfield’s strength and mobility improved significantly. He regained the ability to walk up to 330 feet with moderate assistance using a 2ww and achieved independence with dressing and grooming.
Thanks to his hard work and the comprehensive care provided at our facility, Norman was able to discharge home with his wife. His family was overjoyed to see him walking again and regaining his independence. We are proud of his progress and wish him all the best as he continues his recovery at home.
